‘As Sortes’ is made from Rafa’s oldest vineyards, planted at an elevation of over 680 metres above sea level. These vines have an average age of over 40 years and were planted with a selection of cuttings from the oldest vines in the region. These cuttings were taken during the recovery plan in the late 1970s; a successful attempt to revive and retain what were then varieties at risk of extinction. Fermented in 500-litre oak barrels, ‘As Sortes’ is aged for eight months before bottling. The resulting wine is tight and youthful with lovely richness on the palate. The acid is punchy and clean and gives the wine an amazing vibrancy and length of flavour. This wine has good aromatic intensity, full of grapefruit, red apple, boxwood, wild flowers and an attractive mineral note. The palate is tight and youthful with a lovely richness on the palate. Fresh acidity gives the wine vibrancy and a persistent finish.
